Types of Handicrafts and their uses

There was a time when people got inclined towards modern products to decorate their homes or use as their apparels and accessories. Now, the situation has become somewhat opposite! As surprising as it may sound, this is the fact. And, this is why there is so much of stress on handicrafts or ethnic and traditional products.

It is the urge to get back to the roots that has made this industry one of the most prosperous ones and virtually unaffected by the downturns of world economy. One of the main reasons for that is the self sufficiency of the members of the industry that have made them capable of bypassing the situational requirements and find a way to reach out to the customers and do good business irrespective of other economic factors.

Types of products

There can be a wide range of products that can be made by using the indigenous products that are available in particular region. The most popular categorization of the final products of this industry includes the following:

Textiles: This includes all kind of textiles that are rurally woven. The style of weaving may differ from one state to another or even one country to another and is characterized by a localized nomenclature which makes its roots clearly understandable. Different kinds of products may even be made under the textile category such as banners, patches, applique, tapestry, drapes, dresses, and the like.

Wood, bone, glass, metal:- Apart from textiles this kind of handicraft product is also quite popular. In fact, there is a huge demand for all kinds of bead work, carpentry, doll making, bone carvings, jewelry, etc. There are different varieties of such products that are available and the kind and type of process used to make them is usually distinct. And, this is what makes each and every product unique in its own ways.

Non wood products:- a number of products are made from non wood plants. Decorative and baskets made from bamboo canes, straw, pressed flower and other such materials can be placed under this category.

Paper:- This is also one of the most important materials which form the basis of a huge indigenous art form industry. Paper and canvas can be used to make a wide range of products such as books, cards, paper crafts items, wrapping papers, quills, calligraphy items and other similar products.

All the above mentioned handicrafts items are hugely popular in most of the countries around the world as they are unique and also available at affordable ranges according to the requirement of the customers.
